Surgery & Anesthesia
No one enjoys surgery, but sometimes it is essential. We will make your pets surgery as least stressful and as painless as possible. We have state of the art surgical suite with intensive monitoring performed by our caring and experienced nursing staff right at the end of your driveway! We provide a body wrapping heating unit along with heated intravenous fluids during and after surgery to maintain body temperature which minimizes recovery time and improves comfort. Your pet will be swaddled with a pheromone infused blanket to minimize stress upon waking to quiet classical music. Each patient will get laser therapy for their incision if not otherwise contraindicated to hasten healing times. We offer elective spays for small breed and young (less than 5 months) large breed dogs as well as neuters along with an array of soft tissue surgeries such as bladder stone removal, gastric and intestinal foreign body removal, splenectomies, ear hematomas, biopsies, feeding tube placement, and growth removals.
At this time declaws are not widely accepted by our professional governing bodies and most veterinarians due to the ethical, and medical complications this procedure elicits. We do not support feline declaws due to its harsh techniques of removing what is the equivalent of the tip of our finger from the last knuckle down; this procedure causes intense pain and if done inappropriately will leave remnants of bone behind to cause chronic pain and lameness. We would be happy to teach you how to trim cats nails and apply gel caps to keep them soft. We do understand that some situations dictate its necessity. If you are seeking information on this procedure and feel you have a unique situation that would warrant this procedure we would like the opportunity to discuss this procedure with you in person, in clinic and offer alternatives. In some cases we will make exceptions on a case by case basis. All surgery patients will need pre-operative blood work to include complete blood count, organ screen, and blood clotting times. If you are scheduling a surgical procedure we ask that you complete the anesthesia and surgical forms from the link below, sign and scan back or have ready on the morning of your appointment. ANESTHESIAWe provide the safest general anesthesia and patient monitoring available, all at the end of your driveway! We use a combination of long acting local anesthetic blocks and injectable long acting pain relievers to provide controlled balanced anesthesia with the smoothest recovery. We monitor blood pressure, blood oxygenation, heart waves via ECG, heart and respiratory rates along with body temperature and make necessary changes as needed. The patient is supported and monitored continuously throughout the procedure by an experienced veterinary nurse and attention to the patient’s comfort is our primary concern.
